They are beautiful dogs, but they take a long time to mature. By round about five years old is the usual age for maturity generally.
They are lively, silly dogs who need to have an eye kept on them most of the time as they will get in to all sorts of mischief. They do need plenty of free running a day and will, given the opportunity, vanish from sight if they see, hear or smell anything interesting. I spent a long time training mine and he did respond eventually, but he could never be trusted not to run off after something, so was only offlead somewhere where it was absolutely safe and he was unable to pester people or other dogs.
I don't think apartment living and two basic short walks a day would suit an Irish, they would prefer a nice big garden to dance around in to help release that pent up energy. A bored dog is a naughty dog and as they have short attention spans they do get bored easily.
